Talking Genders was an artistic development programme for young LGBTQ+ people aged 17–26. The project created a space for emerging voices to explore identity, creativity, and artistic expression in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Each edition took place in partnership with a leading cultural institution—such as a museum, theatre, cultural house, or festival—which hosted a one-month artistic development residency. A selected group of participants worked closely together and received mentorship from professional queer artists.
During the residencies, participants took part in workshops led by artists working across performance, video, photography, sound art, and other experimental formats. They were supported in developing their own creative projects, culminating in a public presentation, typically a group exhibition with live performances.
Between 2016 and 2020, five editions of Talking Genders were realised. Each edition offered participants the opportunity to experiment, collaborate, and make their voices visible, contributing to a growing network of young queer artists and supporting artistic innovation within the LGBTQ+ cultural landscape.
