Queer Joy as a resistance
Over the next four years, HHAI work under the theme of Queer Joy as Resistance, creating a trilogy of works: GOOD ENOUGH?, DADDIES, and THE OUTSIDER. This series will explore how joy, pleasure, and connection can serve as tools of survival, creativity, and resilience in a world that often seeks to limit or erase queer presence.
Queer Joy as Resistance frames joy not as escape, but as a radical act of survival and transformation. In a time of growing polarization, anti-queer sentiment, and shrinking cultural space for complex identities, queer bodies, pleasure, and togetherness become forms of political and artistic resistance. Through this work, we aim to position joy as a method, a strategy, and a force that challenges erasure, builds community, and insists on queer presence as powerful, creative, and necessary.
JOY AS:
- a method
- a survival strategy
- a political tool
- a way to endure, connect, and transform
ART AS:
- protest through abundance
- resistance through creation
- connection through vulnerability
